Spring has sprung! After discussing some evidence of spring we decided to go on a hunt in our garden to hopefully find happy birds enjoying the warm weather! We quickly engineered some binoculars and headed outside.
We only saw two birds zipping through our garden. Then came our big question, how can we make more birds visit and stay in our garden? Engineer some bird feeders, of course! With Earth Day just around the corner we decided recycled products would be a great material to help us build..
We looked at some creative ideas from others who have done this challenge and determined bird feeders have a holder, a perch, and a way to hang. Students began sharing their ideas, gathering materials, and created a plan for their very own bird feeder.
Students built for a few days while I aided with gluing and cutting.

Our last step was to fill up our feeders and place them in the perfect location! While in the garden hanging the feeders we observed several birds in the trees around us. This engineering challenge was a great success and will help lead into our next study of interdependency!
